Dry Eye Disease Management

What is Dry Eye Disease?

Dry Eye Disease is a common and chronic condition that affects a growing number of people and has become a major factor in visual disturbance and ocular discomfort. Dryness of the eyes can cause persistent symptoms such as:

  • stinging
  • burning
  • scratchy sensations
  • redness
  • watering/tearing
  • sensitivity to light
  • and blurred vision

These symptoms can be caused by:

  • Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)
  • dry or arid environments
  • medications
  • poor tear film quality
  • increased screen time at digital devices
  • poor hydration

How We Evaluate Dry Eye

In order to accurately treat the symptoms of dryness, Dr. Pulis will first determine whether your dryness is caused by:

  • low-quality tears
  • decreased tear production
  • or a combination of both

This determination is made after a thorough evaluation of the surface of the eyes to look for evidence of chronic dryness, as well as specialized imaging of the meibomian glands to evaluate their health and functionality.
