What is an Axial Length Scan?
An axial length scan is a quick, painless test that measures the length of the eye from the front surface of the cornea to the back of the retina. Because myopia (nearsightedness) is often associated with excessive eye growth, measuring the eye’s length can provide valuable information about how myopia is progressing over time.
How Are Axial Length Measurements Used?
Axial length measurements are most commonly used to monitor myopia progression in children. By tracking changes in eye length over time, your doctor can determine whether myopia is worsening and evaluate how well a myopia management treatment plan is working. When combined with routine prescription checks, axial length scans provide a more complete picture of a child’s eye growth and visual development.
Axial length scans are quick, non-invasive, and do not require any contact with the eye.
